Reception

At St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, we value the importance of laying the foundations for our children to learn and thrive.  We want our children to be happy, confident and resilient learners.

Here, in Reception, we create a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover and grow. Every day is an adventure, whether indoors or out in the fresh air!

We hope that you will join us on our journey of curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning!

In Reception, we use an online learning journal called Tapestry. This allows us to record your child's experiences and development throughout their early years. We often upload class notices and other important information regarding just Reception children on our Tapestry page. Tapestry is a great form of communication! We encourage families to upload their own contributions for us to share and celebrate in class.

In Reception, we strive to support children in becoming happy, enthusiastic readers who have a good understanding of what they have read. We teach phonics daily, using the Monster Phonics Scheme, and we also have reading sessions focusing on practising and applying their phonic skills.

Please be aware that books are to be returned each Tuesday and a new book will be sent home on Thursdays.  This enables you to read with your child at home and provides you with five days before the book is due to be returned.

Happy Easter!

What a wonderful end to such a fantastic Spring Term! 👏⭐️

The children have all worked extremely hard throughout the term and we have seen some excellent learning happening in Phonics, Maths, Understanding the World, Literacy…to name but a few.

We have enjoyed taking part in RE lessons and have developed our understanding of the Easter Story and the importance of Lent. The children have really shown empathy towards each other and have been living out the message from Jesus; to “Love one another as I have loved you.”

We would like to thank you for attending the Parent’s Evening meetings. We are sure you will agree that the children are a credit to you and we are proud of their achievements.

We would like to wish you all a very 'Happy and Holy Easter'. We hope that you will have a wonderful time together as a family, and a special visit from the Easter Bunny heads your way with lots of yummy chocolate eggs!

Best wishes,

Reception Teachers 😊
